As a country, zoning is so respected and it’s a very great reference point when it comes to politics. Every political position has to do with the zonal rotation and the Presidency takes no difference!

Due to this, it’s important to note that if by 2023, unbiased zoning is used, then the Yoruba should have the ticket to become the next number 1 and the most powerful man of this country!

Let’s take a look at some Yoruba Political Heavyweights that can fit as the President!

1. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu :

In Nigeria political scene today, Bola Tinubu aka Jagaban is highly regarded and without exaggeration, he’s the number one person in the ruling party and a bigwig in the selection processes! There have been reports that he’s already nursing an ambition to take over from Buhari and if anyone is to be, He/she has to come through Tinubu himself!

2. Yemi Osinbajo :

The Nigeria vice president is no doubt more than capable and one of the major favorite to become the next president in Nigeria.

He became Nigeria vice president since 29 May 2015 till date and he has show Nigerians on so many occasion what he’s capable of doing as a lot of people still credit Osinbajo even when Buhari’s government doesn’t seem to please some people in the country. Many believe he’s the backbone of President Buhari’s administration.

3. Ayo Fayose :

Peter Ayo Fayose was the undoubtedly the most popular governor during his second term serving as Ekiti State Governor.

During the 2014 Governorship election in Ekiti State, Peter Ayodele Fayose was again the PDP nominee after previously impeached on 16th of October, 2006. He won the election in 2014 and was declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission as the new Governor of Ekiti State.

Fayose has publicly declared his intentions to run for president in Nigerian general election, 2019. Though his party, PDP, has admonished the Governor, against his ambition to be the party’s presidential candidate in 2019. Fayose is also more than capable and equal to the task

4. Babatunde Raji Fashola:

Fashola is the brain behind the “NEW LAGOS”. He served Lagosian well for 8 years before appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari to be the Minister of Power, Works and Housing.

Fashola up till date is considered by many as the most successful governor in Lagos state. Fashola is one of most brilliant politician we have in Southwest and many believe he’s the right man for the job if giving the chance to rule Nigeria.

5. Isiaka Abiola Ajimobi:

In 2003, Ajimobi became a Senator of the Republic of Nigeria. In 2007, Ajimobi contested the gubernatorial election under the umbrella of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) but lost the election bid.

Ajimobi contested again in 2011 under the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and he won. He was the first man to serve 2 terms as a Governor in Oyo State, many regard Ajimobi has the best Governor to ever serve in Oyo State.

He recently lost a bid to return to the senate but this cannot make us overlook his achievements and ability in southwest politics. Ajimobi is also one of the major candidates to be considered in this list.

6. Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola:

Ogbeni Aregbesola served previously as the governor of Osun State between 2010 and 2018. Aregbesola didn’t leave Osun in a good state, but his achievements in first term tenure can not be overlooked.

He was the brain behind the “NEW OSUN”, tho many do not like this man, but research has shown that he’s also one of the great politicians that cannot be ignored in the southwest politics.

7. Ibikunle Amosun;

A lot of powerful Nigeria politician has come from Ogun State, The likes of OBJ, Osinbajo, MKO, Ibikunle Amosun and so many more.

In April 2003, Ibikunle Amosun was elected to the senatorial seat of Ogun Central Senatorial district, he later becomes Ogun State governor in 2011 and In 2015 Amosun stood for a second term as governor. Amosun handed over to his successor, Dapo Abiodun after completing the constitutional maximum two terms of eight years as a governor.

However, he was elected as the senator for the Ogun central senatorial district at the National Assembly. Amosun is, without doubt, one of President Buhari’s loyal Politician coming from CPC before joining APC together. He’s one of the people you should look out for!
