Mayorkun’s new release, Betty Butter has risen to the top of the charts less than a week of release. Here’s our review on what could be the best song this year.

Most of us are always tired of Fridays. Yes! New music day. But after a long week of deadlines, accomplishing tasks and doing the hard work, we’re confronted with a bevy of new music releases.

But we don’t listen to all. What we do is peruse through twitter trend or list of new music and pick artists we’re accustomed to.

Another reason we don’t listen to all is the similarity in sound. If it’s not the usual, mostly-used vibe sound. It would be the now discovered South African amapiano sound. Mayorkun curated his last release, Of Lagos from this sound.

However his new output, Betty Butter is an entirely new single that certainly has no blemish. You hear it, you like it instantly. You can’t hate on such beautiful work. Carefully crafted, calmly sung, well-produced. No blemish.

Drawing from his well of experience with girls, he circles on the topic of trust as the reason why relationships have failed. But that’s not what makes the song tick. It’s the minimal sound structure coupled with the catchy, disyllabic word technique that gives direction to the lyrics.
