What Is IMEI Number?
IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity and you can think of it as your device’s 15-digit social security number. An IMEI number is assigned to any phone operating on a GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) network.
Why You Must Not Release It?
As a techy and to the best of my knowledge, when you lost your phone you can trace, block or erase the phone data by using your phone imei number. You must keep it secret because anyone who knows your imei number have thr chance to block your phone without your permission.
The best thing you can do is to keep it secret. IMEI is a unique number that identifies your mobile phone (the device itself) in a wireless network. Anyone with it can use it for tracking your phone and also find out details about your phone’s brand, model, capabilities.
Despite its importance, IMEIs of phones can actually be overwritten by hackers to avoid smuggled phones recognition. This is the reason you should keep it secret. I’m trying to say, your phone can be cloned with your IMEI.
Can you trust Nigerian government with such information? If yes, then go ahead and release it to NCC. Thank you!
