The World Health Organisation, WHO, Regional Director for Africa, Dr.Matshidiso Moeti, on Thursday, said Africa has about 50, 000 confirmed Coronavirus cases.

A series of tweets on WHO verified Twitter handle quoted Moeti as saying:

“There are now around 50,000 confirmed cases and 2000 have lost their lives across the African continent, and it is incredibly important that countries use data-driven, evidence-based approaches in the response.

“We know that to stop the spread of this virus, the key public health measures need to be in place in every community, even where cases have not been reported, readiness capacities should be propositioned.

Just yesterday, the WHO Regional Office for Africa in Brazzaville, Congo, had disclosed that COVID-19 toll in Africa had risen to 49,000 in the past 24 hours.

According to the tweet, COVID-19 has killed over 1,900 people on the continent, while more than 16, 000 patients have recovered.
