Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone, has disclosed that his side defeated Liverpool in the Champions League round of 16 first-leg encounter on Tuesday night because his players started very well and got an early goal.

He also hailed his players for their impressive performances against Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Simeone’s men defeated the Premier League leaders at the Wanda Metropolitano, thanks to an early goal from Saul Niguez.

Speaking after the match, Simeone was quoted by Atletico Madrid’s official website as saying:

“We started very well and found a goal against Liverpool, and then we understood that we could defend well against them regardless of where the match took us.
“This is one of those nights that you never forget, beating the best team in the world.
“My players did great against a mighty side Liverpool.”
