University student detained for criticizing lawmaker on Facebook released

Yahuza Tijjani, the Bayero University student detained since September 30 for criticizing Kano lawmaker Kabiru Isma’il has been released. 

 

Justice Aminu Gabari of the magistrate court in Kano ordered the unconditional release of the second-year student of the Department of Science and Technology Education who missed a semester while behind bars over the Facebook post in which he criticized the lawmaker representing Madobi Local Government Area in the state assembly. 

 

Premium Times reported that the Kabiru who was accused of abusing his office by influencing the prolonged detention of the student, said the state’s chief judge Nuruddeen Sagir ordered the student’s prolonged detention in a leaked audio.
