The spread of novel Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria continues to record a significant increase as the NCDC reveals Nigeria now has over 33k confirmed cases.

While fighting this pandemic in Nigeria, Coronavirus has killed some notable Politician in our society since the first case was confirmed on March 9 2020.

BELOW ARE THE TOP 5 NOTABLE POLITICIAN WHO HAS DIED OF COVID-19

5.Tunde Buraimoh:

Buraimoh is a popular political figure in Lagos State. He’s until his death a serving Lagos State House of Assembly member, serving his second term.

He’s described by many as the most urbane, most suave and most articulate member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, little surprise he’s the Chairman House Committee on Information, Security and Strategy.

Although unconfirmed, many sources claimed he might contract the dreaded virus from the late Sen. Bayo Osinowo as he was one of his close confidants. They were both from Lagos East Senatorial district especially Kosofe.

4.Aminu Adisa Logun:

The Chief of Staff to the President or Governors in Nigeria are always powerful people in the scheme of things, they are the one who coordinates the day-to-day running of the affairs of their bosses, they are most time the defacto President/Governor and have the ears of their bosses.

This explains why the Governor of Kwara State and the entire cabinet was devastated upon the announcement of the death of Logun. The late Kwara Chief of Staff was an industrialist of note.

He died of July 7, only a few hours after his COVID-19 test returned positive. The Kwara State Government declared a 7-day mourning in honour of the late Logun.

3.Sen. Sikiru Adebayo Osinowo:

Popular known as ‘Pepperito‘, Osinowo was an emeritus lawmaker, having served for a consecutive 16-years at the Lagos State House of Assembly between 2003-2019 where he represented Kosofe State Constituency 1, he moved to the Red Chamber in 2019 to represent Lagos East.

His source of contracting COVID-19 remains unknown, but his death was announced on the 15th of June from COVID-19 complications. He died at the age of 65.

2. Sen. Abiola Ajimobi:

The death of the former two-term Governor of Oyo State was a testament to the fact that death truly does not sound a trumpet. Ajimobi, until he tested positive to COVID-19 was a man that was always lively, outspoken, full of energy and vigour.

During the early stage of COVID-19 in Nigeria, he made a short video to commend our frontline health workers for rising up to the challenge to contain COVID-19, little did he know he will lose his life to the pandemic.

On the 18th of June, the news went viral that the former Deputy National Chairman of the ruling APC had died, his media aide and family soon came out to deny the viral news.

Exactly a week after, on the 25th of June, Ajimobi finally died of COVID-19 complications, he was 70 years of age. The late ‘Constituted Authority‘ died at a private hospital where he was receiving treatment in Lagos.

The Lagos State Government equally confirmed that he died from multiple organs failure. He was buried three days later in Ibadan, in strict compliance with COVID-19 guidelines.

1.Abba Kyari:

The obvious first choice is President Muhammadu Buhari former Chief of StaffAbba Kyari.

Kyari went on a trip to Germany with the Minister of Power to negotiate a deal with the aim of improving Nigeria Power supply.

Nine days after returning from Germany, it was made public that Kyari tested positive for COVID-19. He was being managed in Abuja and was later flew to a private health facility in Lagos state for better treatment.

He eventually lost the battle to COVID-19 on the 17th of April and was buried in Abuja the following day, according to Islamic rites. Kyari until his death was referred to by many as Nigeria defacto President, it was, therefore, a no surprise that his death was a rude shock to the Presidency.

May their soul rest in perfect peace
