When we talk about few artistes who made the days of most of us born in the 90’s Terry G was a big pioneer

He remains one of the few artistes who never really blew above the level he has been known for. He seem to be having some real tough time in the industry right now.

Today, we talk a closer look at the sensational and gifted pioneer of street infused songs, Terry G

What could be wrong with him?

Let’s take a close insight on the level of success he attained and how he has failed to ever since new trends started coming in.

The Rise

He started singing in the choir of his local church at a young age.

Music was really not his thing but he was introduced to it by his his mother who was a choir mistress in their church . Terry G’s mother persuaded him to join the Redeemed Christian Church of God

Because he dropped out of school, he realized there was money in pop music then he left gospel music for pop music which has really paid off

Started off his music career in 2006 when he featured Kemistry’s hit single “Shake”. He also produced the song and it was his first taste of fame and stardom.

The Peak

After producing 2 shots’ “In case you never know” featuring Timaya , he also produced “Pass me your love” by A.Y.com , “Aye Po Gan” by Illbliss, “One by One” by Side amongst others.

In year 2008 , Terry G released the hit single “Love You Sexy” off his debut album “Free Me” and it was a big hit that was accepted by everybody because of the beautiful lyrics and beat .

Before the end of 2010, Terry G was already the star we all wanted. his name had gone places where he has never been.

Terry G won the Best Street Hop award at the 2010 Hip-hop World Awards. He also won the Headies awards in 2012. Just to mention a few because there are more of them.

At a point, we felt Terry G would never fade off because of the gingle he adds to his tracks and the energy, vibes his songs brings. His songs will get you regardless of your mood

Till date, he has served us hit that could serve as potential hits every time they are aired.

The Decline

After enjoying everything the industry has to offer a star, The introduction of new trends from the likes of Etigi, Azonto, and most recently Shoki have contributed to the decline in his relevance.

Although he still release songs and but those songs lack the penetration his recent works used to have.

Is He Finding It Hard To Adapt Or Switch To Trends?

Part of the things that contributed to his fall is the fact that The Punch labelled him as “one of the world’s weirdest singers”, by Vanguard as a “Weird singer”, and by Channels TV as the “Craziest musician in Nigeria”. That was by the way though

Terry G was performing in an event and the DJ stopped his music when he wan’t ready to cut his performance , Terry slapped the DJ and walked out of the Show.

Could He Be Frustrated?

One of the main reasons why he went off the radar was in 2012 when the Police declared him wanted for an alleged Fraud, or drug related issue. He has since then decided to remain anonymous.

Is This The Main Reason Why He Vanished Mysteriously In 2012?

Although he recently claimed to have stopped taking drugs but that was One of the common thing with him back then.

Terry G recently released “Adura” Ft. Skibii in a bid to tap from his glory but lets hope the prayer revives his glory.

MY VIEW:- There is no doubt Terry G is one of the few legends we fail to give accolades to but on a good note, he sure has countless evergreen tracks which will get you all shaky when aired

You need to see his performance at Davido’s 30BG concert, you will understand that Terry G has had a great past in the industry.

The vibe and energy is still there but what could be wrong with his career?

I think he needs a team that understands the modern days music industry better.
