Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has been ruled out for the rest of the season.
The Wales international will therefore be denied a send-off appearance for the Gunners, having agreed to join Juventus when he becomes a free agent in the summer.
Ramsey went off with a hamstring injury during the second leg of Arsenal’s Europa League quarter-final win over Napoli but it was hoped he may recover before the end of the season.
However, he did not train on Wednesday ahead of Thursday’s semi-final first leg against Valencia and will not be fit in time for a possible final – or Arsenal’s two remaining Premier League fixtures.
Arsenal head coach Unai Emery said:
“We can’t use him. Injuries come for players like that and we have players who can play.
“But he was in a good moment when he took this injury. I had a good experience with him, he transmitted his energy and his heart is red like Arsenal.
“I said to him, ‘I want to do something important in your last matches here’ – though he could come back maybe in the future.
“I want to do something important. It will not be with him on the pitch – but still with him, with us.
“I spoke with him yesterday and he feels Arsenal and wants to enjoy the last matches.”
