See Reason Why Jurgen Klopp Doubts Liverpool Will break 100-points record

Jurgen Klopp has suggested that the condensed nature of Liverpool’s upcoming fixture list could prevent them from breaking the Premier League points record.

Manchester City currently boast the highest points tally over the course of an English top-flight campaign, having accrued 100 en route to lifting the title in 2017-18.

But that milestone is under serious threat from the newly crowned champions, who have 86 points to their name with a further 21 still available.

The Reds have failed to win just three of their 31 games thus far, drawing away at Everton and Manchester United and losing away to struggling Watford.

However, Klopp believes their bid to surpass the 100-point mark in the coming weeks could be undermined by a packed schedule hastily compiled in the aftermath of the league’s three-month hiatus.

He said: “Getting that kind of points tally sounds pretty nice to me. I’m not sure it’s possible because six of the remaining seven games we play in a very short period of time. It’s every three days. We will have to make a lot of changes.

“We hopefully can make sure nobody gets injured, we need to be lucky there – if a player gets injured in the first game then he cannot play the next five as well. That makes it really tricky for all of us.

“It will be the most intense period, and by the way was the reason why I wanted that we won it last night – we’d worked two-and-a-half years for that and I didn’t want to wait any longer. That made it pretty special last night.
