Ondo Deputy Governor, Ajayi Fumes As Police Commissioner Withdraws His Security Escort

The embattled Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi has raised alarm over the withdrawal of his police escort.

Accusing the Commissioner of Police, Bolaji Salami over the order, Ajayi said that the move was a plot to endanger his life, family and that of his aides.

The Deputy Governor who appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Muhammed to intervene said that by virtue of his office he still enjoys immunity.

Ajayi was last Sunday engaged in a confrontation with the Commissioner of Police at the Government House.

Following the altercation, seven aides of the Deputy Governor were sacked by Governor Akeredolu with Ajayi reinstating them as his aides hours later.

Ajayi has been in a running battle with his Akeredolu, which has culminated in his decision to quit the APC and pitch his tent with the PDP.

Shortly after decamping from the APC, the Deputy Governor revealed he would not be resigning from office, stressing that the people who gave him the mandate did not ask him to resign as deputy governor.

According to Ajayi’s Chief Press Secretary, Babatope Okeowo in a statement made available to ELEX BLOG, the police commissioner should be held responsible if anything happens to him.

“The Ondo State Deputy Governor, His Excellency, Agboola Ajayi wishes to raise alarm over the withdrawal of his police escort on the order of the Commissioner of Police, Mr Bolaji Salami, putting his life, family and staff in danger.

“This is the same Commissioner of Police that took the Deputy Governor hostage on Saturday 21st of June, 2020 for more than four hours at the Government House gate even though he enjoys immunity under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“We are not oblivious of their surreptitious move to undermine the security of the Deputy Governor and strip him of his security apparatus to make him vulnerable to carry out their evil agenda.

“The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari GCFR, the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director-General of State Security Service, Yusuf Magaji Bichi should be aware of this latest ugly development in Ondo State.

“Should anything happen to the Deputy Governor, his family and staff, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State should be held responsible.”
