Liverpool Boss Jurgen Klopp Begs Fans To Stay At Home When Football Resumes

Jurgen Klopp has again urged Liverpool fans to stay at home when the Premier League returns.

Wednesday sees the first competitive top flight actions since the coronavirus postponed matches for the foreseeable future in the middle of March.

The Reds currently need six points to clinch the title but could only require three if Manchester City lose to Arsenal in the league’s first round of games.

But the club’s celebrations could be punctured by Government intervention to relocate their remaining fixtures to neutral venues if crowds gather outside.

Local authorities agreed for both Liverpool and Everton’s home fixtures to continue as scheduled behind closed doors for the remainder of the season.

Ahead of Sunday’s rescheduled Merseyside derby with Everton, Klopp has implored fans to continue to follow the current protocols for Covid-19.

He said:

“We can play again and go for our massively big target again.

“And for this we need you – we always needed you. All the things are only really special because of you.

“There were times when we did not know exactly if we would play again this season and now, in a couple of days, the league will start again because we behaved really responsibly.

“We did the things we had to do because we wanted to save our loved ones and others as well.

“We had a few internal games, and one against Blackburn, in our stadium, and the biggest difference was before the game — You’ll Never Walk Alone.

“It is still a wonderful song, but without you it is not even 5 per cent. But that is how we have to take it in the moment.

“There will be a moment when the whole 300, 400 million choir can sing it and that is the what we are all waiting for.

“I can promise you, we will feel your support. You are still the 80 to 90 per cent of the petrol in our tanks.

“We will use that but the final message [is]: stay safe, support us from home. We are still with you and you’ll never walk alone.”
