An Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ court on Wednesday ordered that a 40-year-old man, Mathew John, accused of allegedly raping two minors, be remanded in police custody, pending legal advice from the Office of the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Johnson Okunade, told the court that the accused committed the offence on Feb. 23 in Ado-Ekiti.

He alleged that the defendant raped a 13-year-old and a 15-year-old.

Okunade alleged that the defendant lured the two girls, who lived in the same neighbourhood with him and raped them.

The prosecutor said the offence, contravened the provisions of Section 31(2) of the Child Right Law of Ekiti State, 2012.

In the ruling, the Chief Magistrate, Adesoji Adegboye, who did not take the plea of the defendant, adjourned the case until March 25 for further mention, NAN reports.
