5 Lessons We Learnt From Wizkid’s Video For Smile

Posted by E.L.E.X on September 24 2020 under Celebrities

Wizkid perhaps dropped the video of the year today with the visuals for Smile.

When the song dropped, few rocked with it given it was rendered from the spheres of Afrobeat smash hits we’ve associated Wizkid with.

But now, with the video, it seems the meaning of the song is clear and now understandable.

And here are five reasons why we love it.

1. Inclusion of his three sons

You get that eerie feelings little kids give when you play with them or just see a video of them smiling and being themselves, Meji Alabi brings it aboard here.

There’s Bolu at the start, and the young Ayo Jr who grins with much excitement and Wizkid serenades his last born child, Zion.

2. People of Different Races Involved

There’s that statement which says love accommodates all.

And with the unwelcome scenario in the US where white people are clashing with the black Americans, there’s inclusion of people belonging to different races in the video for Smile.

There’s also the addition of the vitiligo woman.

3. The Joy of Interpersonal Relationship

In a world where most kids don’t have this close-knitted relationship with their parents and Covid has made us far from some of our friends, the video for Smile exemplifies that joy present in interpersonal relationships.

We see friends, lovers and parents spend moments with each other.

Who also witnessed that scene of a man smiling with his barber (a bond that can’t be broken easily)

4. Respect To Home — Lagos

That Lagos scenery just had to be there. With the song included in the forthcoming Made In Lagos project, it makes sense there’s a feel of the Lagos atmosphere.

There’s a scene of men tasting suyaflashes of the danfo buses and youths skating on the ever-busy Lagos roads.

And yeah, mothers celebrating in uniform outfits reminds us of owanbe parties.

Truly, Made In Lagos.

5. Nostalgia — Remembering EME

One kind of content that has been rocking these days on SM platforms is that of old content pieces being shared again.

We’ve seen conversations about Lil Kesh resurrect because of his debut album, YAGI and here in the Smile video, Wizkid pays respect to a bond that once existed—his erstwhile label, EME, with Banky W and Tunde Demuren smiling.

Overall, this might just be the best video we’ve seen this year and ooh, there’s the alluring beauty and class of H.E.R in this video.
